Privacy
live.nws.one is run by NWS ONE TIMELINE MEDIA SRL. This page says what the site keeps about you, why, and for how long. For questions, or to see or delete your data, write to [email protected].
Reading the site
Reading needs no account. The site sets no cookies while you read, and it has no advertising and no tracking by anyone else.
To count its visitors, the site is told which timeline your browser showed, in which language, and which site you came from. It keeps only daily totals: views, visitors, their countries, languages and kinds of device, referring sites, timelines and searches.
To count a visitor once a day without a cookie, the site makes a scrambled code from your IP address and browser that cannot be turned back into either. The code, and the key used to make it, are deleted after two days. Your IP address itself is never stored.
Your browser keeps your own choices on your device: your timeline cards with what each shows, its language and size, the newest event you have seen in each, the events you hid, and a timeline you asked to follow before signing in. They never leave your device, and you can clear them in your browser.
To open on your country, the site reads the country your connection comes from, as Cloudflare reports it. It is used for that page and not stored.
If you sign in
The site keeps your email address, when you signed up and last signed in, the timelines you follow, your time zone, whether you want the morning email, and for each signed-in browser the browser's name.
Signing in sets one cookie, nws_session, which keeps you signed in until 60 days after your last visit. It is needed to sign in and is used for nothing else.
Sign-in links and the morning email are sent through Resend, which receives your address only to deliver them. Every morning email has a link to stop it, and My timelines has a switch.
Delete account, under My timelines, deletes your account, the timelines you follow and your sign-ins at once. You can also write to [email protected].
Who else handles data
Cloudflare carries the site's traffic and protects it from attacks. Like any network provider, it sees your IP address as your requests pass through.
The server's technical logs record when an email was sent and to which address. They are deleted after 7 days.
Your rights
Under the GDPR you can ask to see, correct or delete your data, and object to its use. You can also complain to the data protection authority of your country.
Why the site may do this
Your account and its emails exist because you asked for them (GDPR article 6(1)(b)). Counting visitors in totals, as described above, serves the site's legitimate interest in knowing how it is read (article 6(1)(f)).
